How We Are Addressing the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear CPG® family,

I appreciate the trust you place in us for your transportation needs. Following the lead of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, our focus remains on keeping everyone as safe as possible while meeting our customer’s needs.

ContainerPort Group has been and continues to monitor this unprecedented situation and is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our employees, independent contractors, and partners. As the outbreak becomes more serious, we are prepared to take direction from government agencies such as state and county health departments, especially if any mandated requirements are issued locally.

In line with the CDC recommended strategies for employers, we have adopted the following practices to minimize potential exposure of employees and our independent contractors to COVID-19 in our workplace. CPG® has communicated and asked that all employees and independent contracts (where appropriate) comply with the following:

  • Working Remotely: Where possible, our employees have been encouraged to work remotely. We have been successfully utilizing flexible work arrangements for ~85% of our employees since last May, and our team members have demonstrated full ability to work remotely and meet the needs of our customers.

  • Coughing/Sneezing: All CPG® personnel (employees and I.C.s), sick or otherwise, are required to cover their noses and mouths with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or an elbow or shoulder if no tissue is available).

  • Wash Your Hands: All CPG® personnel, please avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer that contains 60-95% alcohol.

  • Additional Cleaning: We have implemented an increase in our workplace practice of cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces in the workplace, such as workstations, counter tops, and doorknobs. We have also asked that I.C.s refrain from entering our terminals right now to ensure social distancing.

  • Travel Restrictions: Travel restrictions for employees are in place as we continue to monitor updates from the CDC and other government agencies.

  • Social Distancing: In accordance with CDC guidelines, our terminals will be observing social distancing and we are asking independent contractors to refrain from entering terminals to help enforce recommended distances. I.C.s are required to utilize technology to replace in-person processes with terminal employees.

  • Stay home if sick: CPG® personnel (employees and I.C.s) presenting symptoms of acute respiratory illness should notify their supervisor or terminal manager and stay home and not come to work until they are free of fever (100.4° F [37.8° C] or greater using an oral thermometer), free of signs of a fever, and free any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing or other symptom-altering medicines (e.g. cough suppressants). Team members returning to the office prior to the time they are symptom free will be sent home and advised not to return until symptom free.

  • Company Personnel will be sent home if sick in the workplace: Employees who appear to have acute respiratory illness symptoms (i.e. cough, shortness of breath) upon arrival to work, or become sick during the day, will be sent home immediately.

  • Sick Household Member(s): Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Company Personnel who are well, or are asymptomatic, but who have a sick household member who has tested positive for the COVID-19, should notify their supervisor, and the head of Human Resources before coming to work.

  • Confidentiality of Health Information: The health information of our employees and independent contracts will be kept in the strictest confidence. We are asking that everyone informs us if they pose a direct risk to the safety of other company personnel so we can guide them appropriately while complying with our legal obligations under state and federal laws.
    • Our policy is to treat any medical information obtained from CPG® personnel, such as contracting COVID-19, as a confidential medical record. In furtherance of this practice, any disclosure of medical information is in limited circumstances with supervisors, managers, first aid and safety personnel, and government officials as required by law.
    • ContainerPort Group will inform company personnel of their possible exposure to COVID-19 in the workplace should we learn that any of our personnel is confirmed to have COVID-19 or has been exposed to COVID-19, but will maintain confidentiality as required by applicable law.
